Yeah I know where Camp Smith is. IT use to be Headquarters for the CINPACAF and I used to brief him on status of Programs/projects we had going on throughout the Pacific. I played Kanaohe several time in my three years at Wheeler AFB (at the time) now I think it's Wheeler Army Air Field. ANyway my wingmen and I did the same thing we went around playing variuous courses. HIckam AFB, Barbers Point, Kanaohe, Leilahua, etc.   I have been back on vacations many times since I left the military and have played several of the newer civilian courses. My favorite is Ko Olina, They hosted a senior event and several LPGA events. I also Like Hawaii Prince, and Waikele. They are expensive though. I am looking forward to returning to live in Hawaii. I will try Kahuku on my next trip based on your recommendation. Nothing like a challenge.

Yes I have played Kaneohe.  As a matter of fact, I was stationed there for 4 yrs.  I was also stationed at Camp Smith, up above Pearl City for 3 yrs.  My compadrie's and I would take turns hitting the different military courses each friday.  I played a few of the civilian courses but they were pretty much way out of our price range.  I did like the Kahuku's though.  This course is right on the side of the mountain between Kaneohe and Kailua.  It is rated as the toughest course in the northern hemisphere.  They have a big sign at the entrance stating that Chi Chi Rodrigez lost 14 balls there in one round.  If your not in the fairway then your in the lava, and every hole has deep ravines somewhere between the tee and the green.  Just make sure you load up all your range balls and have fun!!!!

My wife and I had talked about returning to the islands, but there is just no way we could afford to live there.

Greetings Double Aces!!!  Welcome to the 19th!  As a 20 year Wing Nut I'm suprised that you didn't spend any time in the islands (Hawaii).  Howzit is a slang word used there to say "How's it going!"  My wife is from Oahu, and I spent several years there.

Double-Ace59, you enjoy playing as much as I.  I also enjoy the mystery of the game and the mental challenge.  I played in tournaments using a handicap from the start.  I wanted to meet people with the same desire to get better.

Thanks for the relpy

James
