The Memorial

We all know the US Open is only a couple weeks away, but don't look past this week's great golf tournament at Muirfield Village, The Memorial, honoring golf's greatest, Jack Nicklaus.  Although player's are already thinking about Oakmont, nobody misses the opportunity to pay tribute to the game's greatest ambassador at his golf tournament.  Not only is this one of the best venues on tour every year, it also attracts one of the best fields of the year.  Set in Jack's hometown of Columbus, Ohio, Muirfield Village is one of Jack's best designs, and always produces a great golf tournament.  Even those most critical of Jack's course designs have to appreciate what is a strategical and demanding test of golf.  The Memorial consistently produces established winners, such as Tiger (who won three in a row here from 1998-2001), Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, and Jim Furyk just to name a few in the past 10 years.  Although this tournament has only been around since 1976, it already has established itself as one of the premier tournaments on tour.  The Major winners that have won here include not only the formentioned, but players like Hale Irwin, Greg Norman, and Tom Watson, all multiple winners here, and of course Jack himself has won his tournament.  As in the name of this event, The Memorial was created to honor the great contributors to the game of golf at all levels of the game.  I encourage everyone to check out the website and look at the list of honorees of this great week in golf.  Here is the link to the website which also has many great features on the golf course itself: http://www.thememorialtournament.com/site.htm Have a great week and enjoy the tournament.

Don't forget about those rakes they used which then turns the bunkers into hazards!

Thanks Tim. Great post. We sometimes tend to forget some of the great golf tournaments, and this is definitely one to watch.
