Well I had a great practice session a week ago. Hit about 100 balls and everything felt awesome. Until about an hour after that I could hardly walk. I have back problems but this time I feel like my upper and lower body are in 2 separate pieces. Very painful now since. I have been using some heat now and advil( lots of advil) My hips feel like they are burning too when I commute to work. Does anyone have any good exercises for the back when I hopefully recover. I am not even thinking about swinging a club for a while now. Really depressing after getting new woods and hitting everything soo good including the short game.

Howzit,

Thank you I will look him up. I think I might even have 1 of his dvd's. I believe he is out of Arizona. Hope your back and paralasis heals. I know it never does but you never know with miracles these days. My brother served in that war for the Navy on the U.S.S. Ranger. He assembled Tomohawk missles practically out of his bunk while on that ship during the war. Keep swinging.

Ron, this site has a member called "golftrainer" you should contact.  Mike peterson is a fitness trainer who specializes in golf fitness.  I recieved spine damage while on active duty during the first Gulf War and have suffered from lower back stiffness and paralasis from time to time.  Last year I started looking at some of Mike's stretching and fitness programs and they have helped me out more than the VA ever did!  Check him out!

Elfis,

Do you happen to remember what those exercises were or a website that might have them?

Oh man, this confirms the nagging thought in the back of my head that I need to start doing situps (again).

A few years ago, I wrenched my back and found out that I had a buldging disc. I was told that this is something not out of the ordinary. The Dr. gave me some instructions for exersizes to do that targeted not only on the back but the abdominal muscles. Apperntly; the stronger your gut the better for your back.

Thanks tenth,

Yes I can not just go and swing away. I have always stretched before every round of golf and stretch at work every day as well. I do have the golf gym package, funny you should mention that. I got away from the weighted club as Froghairs and I talked about if I swung it too much I started hooking the ball. So I do little swings with it. I am thinking about the Chiropractor. I feel a little better now after 6 days of pain but still have pain when standing up or getting out of the car. I also do some small Pilates exercises. I really think I have a problem bigger than I know back there from some car accidents back in the mid nineties. When I feel better I will try your suggestion of swinging a club every other day before I head out the door to work. (God at 4:30 a.m.) But I will try anything. Keep swinging folks and stay healthy, it is your body.

Sorry to hear it, Ron.

For back pain, $50 cash at the chiropracter can help break the cycle of nerve pain, if that is the problem. For me, it still takes a week to go away.

For me, not regular exercises (other than actually swinging the club, walking, carrying my bag) - rather, stretches in front of the TV. Yoga type stuff, intuitive that just feels good. But these generally don't help after pain has arrived, but sometimess if I stretch at the first blush of back pain, it is prevented.

On the preventative side, I try to swing the clubs at least every other day, even if that means going to the driving range versus just play a few holes for exercise. I don't see how anyone (not necessarily you) can just pick up and play 18 holes on Saturday, without whacking out their back.

Even then, it happens sometimes. The "swing gym" heavy club, swung every day, is good prevention. But I think you are already doing that one.

And then there is always Updike's book, Golf Dreams, which makes fun of the inevitable decay of our golf bodies, and how our declinging golf bodies foreshadow death.

Goodluck, let us know what works.
