"SERGIO'S RULE" So if I understand this rule correctly, if my 250 yard tee shot down the middle of the fairway lands in a deep divot, I am stuck with it, and have to play the ball as it lies, out of a crater. BUT, if slice my ball off the fairway and it comes to rest behind a tree with no shot to the green, if I have a gopher hole, complete with said gopher doing his/her dirt work, within 3 or 4 feet of my ball, I can get a drop, with no penalty, giving myself a better shot to the green. I think I better write that one down....I see a lot of gopher holes ("abnormal ground") in my future...........LOL Tiger moves boulders, and Sergio now has "critters" working for him. It does pay to understand the rules of golf, and how they can work in your favor. That was a great play off though. Especially the first hole with both VJ, and Sergio holing out both their 25'+ putts to move on to a second playoff hole. Kind of glad VJ won. Kudos to the "old" guy. FHs
To know the rules does pay off. And in some cases you have to wonder if they will tweek up or tighten up some off them with being so generous. I understand there is wild life involved and understandable to get far from it but to get lucky to improve the situation has got to make you wonder if a lot more people will purposly start looking for excuses to improve.
