Yelling Fore Doesn't Work All that Well

I went Golfing this weekend with my dad and had a very interesting experience.  The course we were on has two par fours going in the same direction.  The only thing helping to protect the golfers are a row of newly planted trees.  So I tee off after my dad and crush one to the left of the fairway.  I actually have been losing my slice this year, but this one was straight as can be.  Upon looking where the ball was heading I quickly noticed two carts that were in the area where my ball was to land.

"OH, BLEEP, FOREEEE" was all i could say upon my saying so my dad quickly shouted right after me "FOREE".  I saw the ball bounce and it looked short of the carts but wasn't positive.  I didn't hear any yelling from the area of the carts so I must have missed them.

Upon getting to the area where the ball was we asked if anyone saw a ball come through.  "Yeah it hit him in the head"  Besides the enormouse amount of fear I felt I looked up and a guy was about 10 yards away holding his head pacing back and forth.  Asking him if he was alright explaining we shouted but the didn't hear.  I noticed the man wasn't very pleased but who could be after taking a golf ball off the head.

I am pointed to my ball and the group tells me to go ahead and shoot.  Of course the fear is now I have to hit a golf ball in front of strangers and one other that I just hit.  The shot went off near perfect and we quickly scooted off.

I ran into these guys two or three more times on the course and quickly asked if they were ok but felt more embarresed or if he would confront me didn't really know.

Anyway the moral of the story.  I guess it is better to be hit then not to be.  Atleast no one was hurt and two people got to tell an interesting story of the weekend.

I have been hit 3x myself and none of them had fore-warning which really ticked me off. one hit me half way up my back on the spine during the tournament. The young punks behind us would not admit to who done it. Not that anything would happen but it is nice to be human about it and man up. I ended up not playing for the rest of the day and come to think about it , it took close to a month to get over it.

i ahve been hit three times over the years. Each time was a different scenario, and all have been on my legs fortunately. The first time my 4 year old grand son hit his career shot for his age. He was messing around with a club, while his dad and i were waiting to tee off. He got me in my hammy, which left quite a nice bruise for a while. The second time I was on a green, and guy hit a wind aided 385y shot that bounced off a cart path, and got me in the ankle. Not a big deal for me. Heck it was a 385y shot what could I say. The last time was more confrontational. The group behind us had been hitting into all day. We were being held up by the group in front of us. One of the guys behind us decided to hit into us again, and this time I got nailed on the shin bone. Being there was a water hazard near by, and I needed to practice a wedge shot, I hit his ball into the hazard. Pissed him off pretty good, I did. Anyway after some choice words, and a detective's badge being shown by one in our group, cooler heads prevailed, and they did not hit into us again the rest of the round. As for myself, I won't even think about hitting a ball if I see some one in front of me, and there is a possibility I can reach them. Of course there has been a couple of times while watching my ball flight a cart has been driven onto my fairway. I have had to yell fore a few times at other times for a hook, or sliced shot. fortunately I have not hit anyone....yet I  did get close to some golfers in Texas once due to an errant shot. They just drove their cart over my ball a few times which imbedded it pretty well into the turf. My group made me play it from there. I still made par much to their collective amazement.  FHs

Yelling "Fore" sometimes is more etiquette than a needed warning. You yell but your ball lands short of the group so you feel like it wasn't necessary to yell, but the next time the ball is heading towards someone and you think; "The ball won't go that far", and oops, it flies into their group. I myself would rather have someone yell than have a ball sail by with no warning. (That pisses me off.)
