This week is The Player's Championship from Ponte Vedra Beach's TPC at Sawgrass.  There are many reasons this tournament continues to be one of the greatest on the PGA Tour schedule.  Here are just a few reasons to watch:

1. The best field of players in the world. (no amateurs like The Masters, US Open, or British Open)

2. Best 3 finishing holes on tour and maybe all of golf.

3. Winners don't need to be the longest in the field, just the most precise. (not 7,600 yards like the US Open or the PGA)

4. Anyone can win.  The TPC has regularly produced "dark horse" winning underdogs, most recently Stephen Ames and Greg Perks, but also showcases a long list of great winners including Tiger, Adam Scott, Davis Love III, and so on.

5. Drama, drama, drama.  With so much trouble lurking on this golf course, Pete Dye has set us up for great thrills.  Now most of these thrills include us as viewers, watching the greatest players in the world, make the same mistakes we do.  For instance, this tournament ranks as the highest on tour in two great categories; the most balls hit in water hazards, and the most recorded "others" on tour.  As much as we hate to admit it, we love to see tour players hit the ball in the water, it's fun for us and it makes for great TV.

6. No over hype.  As much as I love the coverage provided for all the majors, sometimes it can be too much over hype in not only the golf media, but all other media as well.  As much as this is the "Fifth Major", it stills remains under the radar to mainstream sports.

Now enjoy the weekend and this great tournament.  And remember, it's ok to make fun of those "professional" golfers who can't hit on the green with a 9 iron from 140 yards out, that's what they get paid to do and if they don't do it successfully, they should be in the water ; ) !!!

Fairways and Greens Everyone

I really wish I could go. (Only a 2.5 hour drive for me.) I love Ponte Vedra. I'll have to settle for watching on TV. Thanks for the reminder.
