I am putting together a new set of clubs for myself for xmas. I have a few conditions to meet before I get to spend the money. Having to do with practice...I still don't get out there and practice. I have to lose some weight...and I have to score a little better....BUT

What I really want to know is, for those of you who've played them, are Mizuno's REALLY the best?

There are as many opinions about which clubs are the best as there are different brands of clubs.  What you need to look at is "What you need in a set of clubs".  Do you need a club that is more forgiving on off-center hits, or clubs that help you get the ball higher in the air, or ones that help you close the face better at impact?  You, and whom ever is teaching your or giving you guidance in your swing, need to figure out what you want/need out of your clubs. (Sorry...no-miss-hit clubs are not available yet).  Then you start looking at the brands who make clubs to fit that purpose that are still in your price range.  Ping, Callaway, Cobra, Mizuno, Cleveland, ect....all make good clubs.  It's finding what looks good and feels right to you.  There are also good clubs that run a little cheaper than the ones mentioned, like Tour Edge, which comes with a lifetime warranty!  Unless it's very evident your smacked a tree or your golf cart in anger they will replace your broken club and/or shaft for free.

Once you figure out which brands you want to look at then go somewhere where you can actually hit, say a seven iron of each brand.  You will notice differences in feel, looks, and how each club reacts to YOUR swing.  From there YOU will decide which brand is for you.

I have three sets that I utilize, a Tommy Amoure set, A Tour Edge set, and a King Cobra set.  I like them all, but find I can do better with one set over another on different courses.

That's my 2 1/2 cents worth!  Good luck on meeting your goals!

Stephy, you really need to go see your PGA Pro at your club.  He can get you into some really good clubs as well as fit you.  All golfers should get fitted for their clubs.  After all clubs should fit us like shoes.  One just doesn't see a nice pair and then buy them.   They must fit.  When your making a $$$$ investment wouldn't it be nice to know that your clubs are the correct clubs for you.  I've seen too many people with the wrong type of clubs from them.  As a matter of fact its one of my biggest pet peves.  If you need help finging a PGA Pro in your area let me know.  Otherwise the Cobra S9 Irons are very good.  They were the Golf Digest Editors Choice for 2007.

Hope this helps.

I have spoken to him...a couple months ago. He got me the set I have now. We have put together something ALL mizuno again...he represents them. I appreciate the attention but I think I want to try some other clubs. Edwin Watts is great about letting people take clubs out to demo...I'll probably do that.

But, I would like some opinions from other people. The Pro can't be my only source. I'd also like to hear from some women. What do you all play?

The best set of irons will be the ones that you get fit for that fit YOUR game.  There are many "brands" out there that will work great for you if fit properly...as a matter of fact, I personally know the president of a manufacturer that is affiliated with the EWGA!  You might have even been in Texas earlier this year when he was there to speak.

I love my Mizuno irons :)

Tough to find another iron that 'feels' as nice.  If you're looking for a club that is very forgiving, and that you can grow with, while retaining some nice 'Mizuno Feel', check out the MX-25s.  Not quite the same as hitting an mp-33 pure, but still pretty darn nice :)

That use to be the only club I would play was mizuno I bought a set of mp 67's when I started back up early this summer but I switched to Titleist. So at this momment in time I am hitting Titleist 735-cm, with 6.5 project x shafts... Just about any name brand iron is going to be a good club... What shafts that are offered are in the club is far more of a factor when ordering a set of iron's... I also prefer a forged club, you get much more feel... If you get a chance demo one of the new true temper black gold, or a project-x shaft if you hit steel shafts...

Thanks! I wish I had more time to try more clubs. I am still wondering about the new lite steel shafts. Heard anything about them? How lite are they?

I would rather narrow it down a bit and then spend a couple of weeks trying things. It's also tough to get any attention at Edwin Watts. I find I prefer the Golfsmith store here, but they don't have quite the selection.

Thanks ProV and welcome to the forum.:)
