SO...I figured even with the new stretching routines from Pederson and the workouts for my core....it would take me a while to break 90. So I thought, I'll reward myself with new clubs when it happens. Well....I did it about 6 months before I thought. I'm not getting new clubs, BUT I only carry 12, and I would like a 60 degree wedge. Cleveland is supposed to be the best...or T Vokeys...but what about Mizuno? I thought I might also add a 15 degree three wood. Mine is 18 and a little whippy for tee shots. What do you all think? What's a good wedge? What do you all use in the sand? My PW is 50 deg and SW is 55.
I, not being a long hitter, prefer to work harder and be better on the short game. I carry 4 wedges: PW-48 deg, gap-52, sand-56, and lob-60. For most green side traps I find I do alot better with the 60 over the 56. If I need to go across a long green to the flag or if the bunker is a ways from the green then I'll pull out the 56. We throw away 75 percent of our score between short shots and putting. This is the area we must make the fewest mistakes to score well. If you are NOT continuously popping your three wood into the sky I would consider changing the shaft rather than the club itself. A stiffer tip will ease up on the "whippy" ness and keep it easier to control than a 15 degree.
My two 1/2 cents worth

The worst possible situation presents the greatest possible challenge!
Steph, i suggust to all players to carry at least 3 wedges. PW, SW, LW. The LW is the 60-64 degree wedge. When the golfer uses the LW they must swing with plenty of speed and that speed is what will produce back spin. Let me know when you get your LW and be sure to committ to making a swing with it.

I just watched a golf channel pro say that back spin is overrated and people should worry more about accuracy especially when pitching. It made sense to me. Watching the pros turn a 10 footer into a 20 footer due to backspin is torture to watch!

Work gets in the way of golf...
So I got the 60 degree...and when I hit it right, it's a beeeeutiful thing. When I don't....it's still pretty! The thing I like about it is the weight/loft...I really smack the ball high. I tend to get a ball quite airborne anyway, and this is just fun. I may back into a 54 and a 48 and get rid of my sissy girl wedges.
But right now I need a new driver. Ok WANT a new driver.

You asked about what do we hit in the sand trap and that for me at least depends on the carry and distance to the hole. I hit a lob wedge when the landing target is tight (close) to me and work out from there. I have hit a 9 iron from a greenside bunker before just so I can get the roll I need to get it to the hole from a 25yard bunker shot. Yes spin can be a killer I will agree on that but at the same time it can save you as well. Front pin throw it beyond the hole with spin to stop it or bring it back and with a back pin I would rather keep the spin off and land it a little short and release to the pin. Middle pin calls for a 1 hop and stop shot.

Four wedges in my bag....Standard Pitching Wedge and Sand Wedge (both Ping Eye2 - old school), two Cleveland Classics one 52 and the other 60 zero bounce on both.
