I don't normally recommend golf equipment because I have not used all the different types that are available. I tend to subscribe "it is the indian, and not the arrow" old saying.  That being said I like to let you all know about a ball that relatively new on the market that I am having a very fun time playing with.

I never gave it much thought about playing with a certain ball in colder weather. Just recently I was told while looking at a box of "Wilson Staff 50" balls that it was a good winter ball. Reason being it is a very soft (50) compression. I gave one that I had found, a try the other day while practicing on my short game. The first chip I made with it felt very different in a "good feel" sort of way.  Not knowing which brand of practice ball I had hit, I actually took the time to walk over and pick it up. The other thing I noticed when chipping and pitching with this ball was that it was ending up closer to the pin, than the other practice balls I was using.

Base on that practice session I cruised on over to my local "big box mart" store and picked up a box (12) for around $16 and gave this ball a try during an early morning round. The early morning temp was in the mid/high 30s when we started. The ball played very well for me, and I could definately tell the difference in it's feel on all the various shots, and putts I encountered. I actually wound up letting the others in my foursome have some, who also agreed this ball felt better. So if you are a cold weather golfer, you might want to try this ball.

Shot a 78 for my troubles that morning.

On another note. On those colder mornings where there is frost/dew on the greens, the rolling putt will leave a trail. When ever possible, use those trails left by others to help read the break on your next putt........FHs

LOL, that's a good one. But I can remember back in the 1970s I was fishing in a bass tournament in south Florida, and some of the coves had thin ice on them. Then the sun came out, and the humidity went through the roof.   FHs
