I am thinking about picking up a new putter and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

For mainly aesthetic reasons, I like my rather plain Odyssey putter. It is rounded, nicely balanced, and I can pick the ball clean off the green (after I miss a putt) with the putter head. Understated. The head is round and feels good when I subconsciously fidget between my putts and waiting for otheres.  There's a nice clicking sound when it contacts the ball. It will also nicely scoop the ball out of a cup that is filled with water without getting my hands wet.

Good putting is intuitive, so you have to love your putter. Go find the one you like, and make it your own. Kind of like loving the sound and feel of your driver.

Thanks for the advice.  I am planning on heading out this weekend and giving some a go.  I currently have an Odyssey but I want to try out the various Scotty Cameron's.

AceGirl had that same question last fall. I feel that a putter needs to feel good in your hands. I have never gone with the big brand names but have found a few putters over the years that I have had confidence in. For several years, I used a face balanced "Earthwoods" putter from Louisville golf. (somewhat of a mallet style head). For the last 2 seasons I have switched to a 415CR putter from Master Grip. The head is somewhat large and non-traditional, but the weigh gives me confidence that my stroke will be on line. I have used the traditional "blade " style putter for a couple of rounds but never developed a good feel. As far as using the putter head for scooping the ball out of the hole, just be careful to not damage the lip of the cup. (I prefere that this practice not be done.)

In addtion to feeling comfortable, make sure you check out the MOI rating. The higher this rating, the more the putter face will resist twisting on off "sweet spot" hits. First thing I do when looking at putters is to hit balls off the toe, center, and heel of the putter face. When you find a putter that sends the ball reasonably straight off all three of those putter face areas, you are going to make more putts with that putter. That is more putts when compared to a putter that is more prone to twisting on off sweet spot hits. BTW, the putter's sweet spot in not always in the center of the club face.

Iam also agreeable that a putter should be properly fitted to the golfer by a qualified club fitting guru. Loft angle, lie angle, and shaft length can all be adjusted to help the golfer make more putts, based on the individual's  putting stroke.

It's all about making more putts.....FHs

PEOPLE! All he really wants us to say is....YES, it's OK to spend a bunch of money on the Cameron putter.

See, that was easy!

I want to do the same thing. But I'm a very good putter with my Odyssey. I don't really like it....it's too long and I think it got bent when we moved, but I've clearly made it work. I should just get it fixed...BUT I'd rather, when I feel justified, go get that Scotty Cameron I've been looking at.

::sigh:: I guess I'm really afraid I'll be a real moron and keep a head cover on it while I play. I want to be the person who takes the driver cover AND the putter cover off the entire round.

Anyway, GO GET YOUR PUTTER!
