Chipping away...
DATE: 07/01/2007 07:57:45 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes
This weekend I'm hanging out indoors with my spousal unit...he is away all week so I don't golf every weekend he's here. I've been able to get up early, tee off before 7 and be at work by 10:30 these days. VERY nice, since my EWGA gals golf in the heat of the day and I can't do it. I'm sick for two days if I golf between 11-3:00.
Anyway, trying for more early morning golf this week...lots of folks are on vacation and it's nice to be able to get in a little later, and work a little later. :)

Chipping away...at my weight
DATE: 06/23/2007 16:35:48 / MOOD: can't wait for it to cool down
So I think I've finally had an epiphany on the golf thing. I want to get better, and the only way I'm going to get better is to develop strength and flexibility, and lots of practice. So...less golf, more gym. Just going out to play twice a week and expecting to get better is pretty silly. That said, Missy, Stephanie A. and I had a great time playing early Friday morning! I will let myself do it again on Wednesday, provided I hit the gym Sun, Mon, Tues. Golf as a reward...not a given.
Enough about me...how y'all are? (channelin JW)

So, the scramble team played lousy...and finished 2nd...a tie actually and after some calculations...3rd. It was awful. One member of the "team" continued to make decisions that got us in trouble...that she couldn't get out of...and, well, what the hell. I played well though so I know I did my part. No more scramble for me. If we actually followed our strategy and used fairway shots rather than crappy lies, we probably would have finished first by several shots. I had fun with my cart partner Jo though, a good buddy.
I think my time in the gym is paying off, will work harder through June and keep stats.
Next year it's stroke play for me. :)
We had a winner in the 3rd flight! WOO HOO! It's nice to send a member on to the championship. Go Debbie S.!!!

Chipping away...the weekend

The BARC tournament was fun...all our charity tournaments are. This one was an early am check-in....good golf, good food, good friends. And home by 1!
The big EWGA Sectional is Saturday at the Legacy in Bradenton Fla. Finals in TN. I'd love our scramble team to win this...does anyone have any scramble strategies? We are a 4-some of type-A leaders. It doesn't bode well for planning or strategy, especially on that VERY DIFFICULT course. Oy. HELP!

Chipping away...at Doral

WOW, what a nice course the Great White is! Free is good too! Women's Golf Week ROCKS! We got to the 15th and the weather was looking dicey....finally I just told my friend "I'm picking this thing up and heading back to the clubhouse!" Good move...we barely made it under the terrace awnings...BOOM! Then it proceeded to rain 1.29 inches in 16 minutes (according to the TV news)...and I believe it. MONSOON! Guess the summer has officially started in South Florida. But hey, FREE GOLF! Good fun, got paired up with a Swiss Touris who has played everywhere in the world...prefers singapore and thailand.

OK...so this new technology where they put the blue line on the TV to see if the putt follows it. Annoying, I hope they cut that crap immediately.
ANYHOW..playing the Great White at Doral tomorrow....AMEX Women's golf week doncha know? 50 bucks. HA! I'll keep you posted on how it goes....I think I'm even going to take a new box of HX Tours along. Brave? sure...
Saturday...the BARC charity tournament...Broward Alcohol Rehabilitation something or other. I'm guessing there won't be a booze sponsor...::sigh:: but then again, tee time is 7:45am WOO HOO! Home in time for lunch. OR another 18!
A woman friend from Golfwrx.com joined the EWGA TX and gave me credit for her membership! How nice! I do love the group. If any women would like to hear about the organization or check to see if there's a local chapter nearby www.ewga.com.

So the preserve was good today...although I shanked 3 drives so horribly you'd wonder if I'd EVER played the game before, I hit some might good short irons and even made a few putts. 98 for my efforts. Only put two in the water. 8 silly strokes 'till I break 80, but it will happen by summer's end. The exercise is helping a lot...just need consistency, which means practice. Lots of it. I need to build some muscle memory into these old muscles. Geesh!

Well, that lesson was SO worth it!! I have great confidence 80 yards and in to chipping range...whew! I was getting worried since I hit everything so much further.
Had a long golf-free memorial day weekend with my gal pal Jo...husband was at a college reunion. Jo and I did swimming, tennis, the beach, rollerblading and the gym. Oh yeah, and we polished off several delicious bottles of wine. Add stinky cheese and a little shrimp and you've got a fun weekend.

I haven't been to the range this week yet...I know it's only Tuesday...but the week goes fast. Signed up for my last lesson of a 10 pack I bought last fall. I just want to work from 90 yards in. I think I could take 10 strokes off my game if I could just sort out the pitching. I can chip...but I wish I didn't need to as often as I do!!
Anyone got any wedge distance control tips?

MUCH MUCH better day today! Perfect weather and a 98! Yesterday's 115 was my worst round in 6 months. So it's nice to feel back on track. Until I break 90, I don't get my new clubs, so I gotta get into the gym and do my daily yoga. It really does help!
Back to work tomorrow. :(

Well, the scramble tournament yesterday was fun...we came in 3rd, there was no separate women's category. -9. We didn't play real well, but better than the chapter championship by a couple strokes.
Today I played at 7am and just played AWFUL. I have another 7am tee time tomorrow, I better get up a little earlier and warm up more. It was glorious though...I love being out there early.
Cheers!

Happy Thursday (reposted fr weds)....finished will all day meeting. Wish I could have played golf instead, but what else is new? I have to work on my fitness...getting pudgy and it's killing me. Left hip is sore...hamstring injury from 4 years ago.
Working with the new Golf fitness books I've downloaded from MPs sight. The stretches are GREAT! My shoulder turn is much wider. WOO HOO!
I'm going to do a bunch of the stretches before and during my scramble round tomorrow...see if this stuff will make a difference on the course. I'll keep you all posted.
Tonight is the cocktail party and auction for "A Child Is Missing", the charity for whom my scramble team (DirectBuy) is playing. I think a thursday night party is a great way to start a charity golf event for a friday!
Cheers!

So our EWGA chapter championship was yesterday. Fun...lotsa fun and I played on a competitive scramble team instead of stroke play. We had to beat the other team by 7 strokes and we tied!! It was sad how much difficulty we had with approach shots, but we won...so the handicapping really does work.
Next step, sectionals at Legacy in Bradenton...a real BEAR of a course. Yikes!
Cheers!
