Chipping away at...unemployment
DATE: 09/23/2008 15:39:29 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

Now...you'd think I'd be playing a lot of golf now that I'm not working....right? WRONG. I am just a bit too particular, it seems, to get anyone to play with me EARLY. I've always had that problem, but it's gotten worse. My good pals who usually play on Sunday AMs have purchased a new house in a retirement community a few hours north of here. Arg. And it seems that's where they always want to be...even though they aren't QUITE retired yet. So...with everyone else working for a living, and ME unable to handle the florida summer head midday...I'd have to go play alone. I do that, sometimes, but not as often as I'd like. AND there's that cashflow issue. Golf and guilt don't go well together. ::SIGH::

Froghairs...I've heard the same for the past year or so on the decline of golf. There was an article (Golf Digest maybe?) on the great deals you can get at private clubs these days because they are STARVED for members and up to their eyeballs in debt. HA HA HA is all I can say. I wouldn't spend my money belonging to a private club...my spouse doesn't golf, or spa, or play tennis...and I'm not going to pay for "social" nonsense I don't want. I would also need a club with at least 2 courses, otherwise...gawd, who wants to play the same course all the time?

Seriously though, I'm sad to see what the industry has done to itself. The big issues with golf are TIME and MONEY. So Pace of Play, and Fees have to be addressed.

I would play 4 mornings a week if I could pay less than 50.00 and be done in 3 1/2 hours. I might even stick around and eat and drink...but as things stand I don't have time. No time = no time to spend money at the bar/restaurant.

Chipping away....at yoga.
DATE: 07/26/2008 04:08:13 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

So, I called the local yoga place, where I hadn't been since the job started 2 years ago, to see if the sessions I purchased almost 3 years ago were still useable. THEY ARE! So I do 90 minutes of yoga, two days in a row..got out and shoot 43 on 9 holes. Hmm. Best 9 ever for my by a coupla' strokes. Maybe there's something to this flexibility thing....I always knew there was, but this is pretty dramatic for me.

So this morning it's yoga at 8:00 then off to the gym. Monday I'm in Chicago/Michigan for 10 days. I'll be back in time for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics WOO HOO! I just love the olympics.

Watching the gals in Evian? Poor Helen A. breaks the course record and is still in 2nd by a stroke. But the Yankees are now only 3 games back. perhaps there is a gawd?

Chipping away...at the constant SELLING
DATE: 07/15/2008 16:33:42 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

I would like to hear more about how everyone's golf is going. I don't come here to buy anything. I will never buy something I've seen on here. That's not what this site is about for me.

It's the off season here in florida, so the golf is cheap...but you have to strike between the raindrops!

The EWGA South Florida Sectional was a good time, and the competition was fierce. The Diplomat was the perftect venue...what a course and what great service.

I'm playing Thurs, Fri, Saturday...all before 7:30 am. Gotta get out while it's SORT OF cool!

DATE: 05/27/2008 03:16:42 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

Decided to do the scramble again this year. I swore I wouldn't do it again, and here I am! This team is different though. Somehow we just 'gel'. So we won the chapter championship and the sectional is June 21st at the Diplomat. Did a practice round Sunday and it's a good thing. Tough course. Ice cold glass of chard at the end was a nice reward.

June is women's golf month. Go to www.playgolfamerica.comand see what your local courses have going!

DATE: 03/02/2008 13:31:45 / MOOD: want to sell my clubs

If you look at my score today, I played AWFUL...but if you realized I was trying to make some changes...you'd say...not bad. I hit some shots that almost brought me to tears they were so pretty! So it was a beautiful day, an awful score, and some great shots. Here's to trying to get better.

I would like to sell my clubs...but only because I want some particular new ones. :)

We had a big power surge thing happen at 1:09 this afternoon. I was in a restaurant with my team from work. It just seemed like a serious surge...made the music in the place turn off for about 10 minutes, so that was nice. I hate music over my head and they wouldn't turn it down. Last lunch there!

Anyway, @ a million people lost power...I just left the lunch place and came home. No need to get stuck in my office building!

I should have gone to the range. I'd really like to get better, but so far, i dont' practice. GEESH!

Now that I'm the President of my EWGA golf chapter, I probably have to stop playing league on saturdays. last week this particular long time member decided to start bitching about decisions i've been making. She's a pain in the ass anyway, and does NOTHING for the chapter, hasn't lifted a finger to do anything in the 3 years i've been a member...so i put the "ignore" button on her. But who wants to listen to that on saturdays. My husband TOLD me not to get involved, but I didnt' listen. Oy.

Our chapter needs new leaders and new decisions. That particular old guard treated the group like their own private golf group for 8. Well they can all go find someplace else to hang out...I've got 112 other members who would like to see some change!! Change there will be. WOO HOO!

Chipping away...at the Faldo Golf Institute
DATE: 12/03/2007 16:46:13 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

Long time no blog...how's things? I spent all of last week in Orlando, had a vacation club week I needed to use, so I went to the Marriott Grande Vista. Last time I was there, 3 years ago, I didn't play golf. SO this time, I did the clinics at the Faldo Golf Institute and WOW what a difference a professional golf school makes! We'll see if it translates to better scores next time out. Gotta practice though.

That's all I've got, really swamped these days. Hope you are all playing lots of golf!

So I am attending the big EWGA Annual Convention! We have over 400 women at the conference for 4 days. Lot's of golf, big time sponsors, fantastic speakers and amazing prizes...the food, the accomodations and the people are just fantastic! We even have people from Kenya here, a girls golf charity, France...our newest chapter, and of course the entire US of A. We are test driving cars from VW, having all the Coors beer we can drink....Taylor Made, Ping and many others are here...the goody bags are huge! Grips, balls etc. Big sit-down dinners each night. I've been to a lot of conventions, but this one actually has GOOD speakers! Carol Mann, Laura Davies, the US Marketing Director from Nike Golf, PGA Tour reps from Golf2020, PlayGolfAmerica.com etc. It's huge. All the golf you can stand as well!

As President of our Broward Chapter...I think more of us should attend these. Long Island sent 18!

So I'm the President of our local EWGA chapter as of November 1st. I'm thinking about local charities like the 1st tee etc. Anyone have any other good ideas for my group so we can begin doing some things for OTHERS...golf related?

Thanks for any input!

Chipping Away ... at the new season!
DATE: 10/04/2007 14:48:47 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

I know a lot of people up north are ending their golf seasons soon, but here in Florida, we're just beginning ours. One of the coolest things about it is all the stuff that is on sale this time of year because so many people will be experiencing cold winters. I may finally get some of those clubs I want!

Playing this Saturday at Shula's in Miami Lakes. New course for me, I'll keep you posted!

Chipping away...at Mizuno's new driver!!
DATE: 09/30/2007 04:54:15 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

Forgot to mention the new club thing..I'm not sure how many times I've bored you all with this, but I'm still contemplating, but not buying. SO I play with 12 clubs, but I'm getting better and want to fill a couple of gaps. I would like a 60 degree wedge, and I'd like a stiffer 3 wood. But NOW, a snag! I like my golf instructors MX-500. And I just saw that Mizuno has the 600 out. This is tough. Do I try the new one and potentially waste hundreds of dollars? OR...do I try to find a deal on the old model?

I know I said I was getting new clubs when I broke 90. I just did it kinda quick and so I'm slowing things down a little. Florida golf season is just a few weeks away! Woo Hoo!

DATE: 09/30/2007 04:50:22 / MOOD: can't wait for the sun to come up

On the one hand, I wish it would stop raining, on the other hand, I have an exam Tuesday morning and I need to study. Fortunately I'm nearly done with the reading, and we all know that if it were sunny, I'd be WAY behind. So, no golf, but getting a lot done!

Here's to a Sunday of reading, taking practice tests and....oh yeah, watching the boys in the Prez cup, and the girls in Alabama. IN THE BACKGROUND of course!

So...summer is officially gone! And it's rained for 2 days straight here in Florida. Wow, I hope this helps alleviate our dryness situation. I think I have another month left on most of my summer specials. I need to play more!! I stayed home and snuggled with the spouse this weekend...but coming up, he's away so maybe I'll just play 18 on Saturday and 36 on Sunday!

Happy Fall 19th holers!

Chipping away...Orlando
DATE: 09/16/2007 15:34:36 / MOOD: can't wait for it to cool down

Just returned from my golf weekend in Orlando. It was a group thing and we had a good time. 3 days of golf is a little much in this heat though. We played the New Course at Grand Cypress today and on Friday. Yesterday we played the North and East 9s. The new course is designed by Jack to mimick St. Andrews, complete with pot hole bunkers. I managed to stay out of those, but it was an UGLY UGLY day for many. Today I ended up close to one once...but still stayed out. It was so strange to be on in 2 or 3 and then 3 or 4 putt. The greens were murder.

It was great to hang out with golfers, watch Tiger and the Solheim and basically be ALL GOLF ALL THE TIME for a few days. We were in Villas so we were able to cook and hang out and drink wine. I'm pooped. Need to shower and relax.

DATE: 09/11/2007 16:36:11 / MOOD: can't wait for the sun to come up

This is always such a tough day. I was living in New York 6 years ago today. I'm a career Financial Services Industry person. Here's to figuring out how to stop killing innocent people in response to the killing of innocent people.

In other news, after a long lay-off I went to Inverarry with the EWGA gals and shot a 108 on Sunday. It was a lot of fun, and I hit some pretty good shots. But I only hit ONE fairway! The only hole I parred was a short par 4 where I used my 5 wood off the tee, 5 wood for my second shot...then chipped and one putted. Why can't I put that damned driver away when it's not working for me???? Oy vay.

In other news, I need a crown. Yep, I went to the dentist today. I figure, the day is shot anyway....why not get the dental thing done?

This weekend is a 3 day, 4 round odyssey with 18 of us up at Grand Cypress in Orlando. We're staying 4 to a Villa and should have a BLAST! Greens in regulation for everyone!!!!!

Well I had a good trip to Iowa...my Dad had a successful eye surgery and I actually got in 9 holes on Wednesday and Friday with a childhood friend. OK, we played 14 on Friday...but don't tell Mom! Seriously...it was good to play with my friend back home and show off my improvement. It would have been even better to play with Dad. Hopefully he'll be well enough to see when I get back there.

Working out and watching my diet...watched some good golf training video on Comcast OnDemand. The group is playing a course on Saturday which I've not played and since it's fairly early in the AM, I may play. I love a new golf course! Maybe a few of my new tricks and newfound flexibility will pay off.

DATE: 08/11/2007 05:16:57 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

I've been away quite  a lot lately...seems like a lot of commitments and not much golf. I missed that chat here because I was out at a work function and got home later than expected. It's been hectic here and there is some sort of allergen in the air...torture! I played thursday and friday mornings....95 and 95. Tough getting it right off the tee these days....so WHY OH WHY don't I put the driver away and use my 3 wood! I broke 90 that way and haven't been smart enough since. Oy.

Off to Iowa today to visit my parents for a week. I may not have internet access all week. If I do I'll try to remember to pop in.

Cheers! and again, my apologies for missing my own chat. GEESH.

So I spent 10 days in Michigan...meant to go into Chicago a couple of days, but just didn't feel like it. Spent time in the pool, at the beach, and walking the wooded dunes of Harbor Country. Ahhh!

Back in Sticky Florida and have 2 early tee times for Saturday and Sunday...WOO HOO! I'm already planning..stretching every day, hitting the weights. I'll be playing alone, which is always good. Going to pitch and chip tomorrow after work. Next stop is breaking 80 of course. :)

Chipping away...I break 90!!!!!
DATE: 07/02/2007 15:33:11 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes

Well, work or golf...work? or golf...I decided to golf early and work late and WOO HOO! I broke 90 for the first time! I shot an 89 today. It was just a hoot! I didn't tally my score until I logged it in and almost fell off the chair! I drove the ball consistently 190-240 yards and my second shots were mostly good. Wow. Chipped well and putted like I know what I'm doing. MAN! How fun is THAT? I broke 100 for the first time a year ago..July 15th. July is a good month for me. Sure, it's 80 degrees by 8am, but I guess it keeps me warmed up.
