We Review4U: Straight Nuts™ Golf Hold 'Em
DATE: 10/25/2007 08:22:01 / MOOD: i love golf
Are you planning a charity event golf tournament, men’s league outing or just looking to liven up your weekly play date group? We have found just the thing for you! A poker golf scorecard from Straightnuts,LLC combines two great sports and puts a new spin on the game of golf we all love so much. A StraitnutsPoker Golf Scorecard is an 18 hole golf scorecard with Poker cards assigned to every hole. The company offers poker score cards in Stud Golf, Black Jack Skins, Scratch Golf Poker, Hacker Poker and Golf Hold Em. We, here at the 19thHole, being the true Texans that we are we just could not resist the opportunity to try out the Golf Hold Em Scorecards. We rounded up our Research and Review team for a day of golf. (Yes, we know that we have the greatest jobs in the world). On the Straitnuts scorecards you get to choose your target score for each hole. In the case of our outing we designated the target score to be par and made sure that everyone knew that we would be counting the net score. We felt that this was fair considering that our group of players ranged in handicaps. The way it worked is that when a player made a net par, he/she was then allowed to scratch off the poker card for that hole. So basically one had to par to play the game. The ideal situation would be to make net par (or better) on each hole and have each poker card scratched off. At the end of each nine each player was asked to look at their poker cards and create their best 5 card poker hand. This was done on the back nine as well as overall. We were able to play three hands of poker against each other with the Poker golf scorecard. It really helped to have the list of possible poker hands on the back of each card for those of us that get a Strait and a Flush mixed up.
What we loved best about this game is that as players we didn’t have to push for birdie. A consistent net par after net par was enough to be able to scratch off a poker card. After that, like poker, it just depended on the luck in the hand to determine the winner. Just as we would shuffle a deck of cards prior to playing, Straightnuts shuffles a single deck of poker cards for every scorecard created, assuring no two players will have the same scorecard. The poker cards are covered with scratch-off printing insuring no player can pick a more favorable scorecard. We really enjoyed the excitemet after each hole of getting to scratch off a number. By the end of the round, you could hear players rooting for a 10 or a Spade. Though we decided that we wouldn’t want to use a Poker Golf Card for every round, having them really made for a unique and excitig day spent on the golf course with friends. For a pack of 20 scorecards the price is around $30.00 and for larger outings, you can purchase a pack of 100 for $150.00. We encourage you to keep these in mind for any upcoming events you might be helping with. We also think that the Straitnuts golf scorecards would be a great Holiday gift for the golfer in your life who seems to have everything. We Review4U: MacGregor Mens MACTEC NVG2 Mid Irons
DATE: 10/16/2007 21:18:16 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes
MacGregor Mens MACTEC NVG2 Mid IronsTwo months ago the 19thHole.com Review Team received a set of MacGregor MACTEC NVG2 Mid irons. We immediately rounded up the team to see who wanted to test them out. Not surprisingly, everyone wanted to try them out. Sadly, we did not have enough time for all 10 of our reviewers to test them, as we like for each reviewer to play at least three rounds with a set of irons to give them a fair review. But in the past eight weeks four of our testers did have a chance to get the minimum three rounds in with this set. Here are the results. About these clubs: Target player: Mid to high-handicapper. "Golfers who want forgiveness and tremendous distance, even on off-center hits. For those who enjoy hearing their friends say: "You're hitting a 7-iron from here?" First Impression: "The feel and sound of these irons is incredible. I've never felt and heard such a crisp strike with almost every shot." Just about every product made by MacGregor Golf, from drivers to hybrids to irons and putters, is loaded with technological bells and whistles. All with a purpose: to enhance getting balls airborne (except for the putters of course) and achieving optimum trajectories and distance. "At MacGregor, we use the world's most advanced technologies to create golf equipment that makes the game easier and more enjoyable for all golfers," said Barry Schneider, chairman/CEO of MacGregor Golf. "We're totally dedicated to the principle that better technology, better materials and better design produces better performing golf clubs."
All MacTec NVG2 clubs employ MacGregor's Cup Face 360-degree technology that eliminates welds on the face of clubs, a design meant to enlarge the "sweet spot." According to the company, Cup Face 360 technology, compared to traditional face-insert technology, provides 30 percent more of a sweet spot for enhanced energy transfer and forgiveness. The new NVG2 Mid irons (3-PW) are designed for players seeking greater forgiveness. The clubs have a hollow-body structure, wide soles and toplines, and progressive tungsten weighting which varies from long to short irons. A low/deep weight in the long irons is meant to enhance launch while a forward weight system in the short irons is designed for greater control. In testing with our 19thHole.com Advisory Panel, testers praised the NVG2 Mid irons for their solid feel and ease in getting the ball in the air. The clubs would best suit mid to higher handicap golfers. Several low-handicappers did comment on the lack of shot-shaping ability with these more forgiving clubs. So generally, if you want to hit the ball straighter, then the NVG2 Mid Irons from MacGregor should help.
The cup face design eliminates welds from the face, and stretches the high rebound surface over as large an area as possible. MacGregor says that this gives its clubs the largest possible "sweet spot." The clubs also feature maraging steel, variable face thickness, and a tungsten weighting system that moves the weights around to maximize each club. The MACTEC NVG2 Mid Irons feature:
CUP FACE 360*Entire face is the sweet spot, every shot feels like dead-center Tour professionals make such consistently perfect contact with the ball that there's an area of wear on their irons they call the "Dime Spot". Because most golfers have more of a "Silver Dollar Spot", the technology in the NVG2 irons creates unmatched forgiveness. Unlike other Hollow-Body Structures with face inserts, there are no face welds with Cup Face technology. So the entire face is the Sweet Spot. The Cup Face 360* is thinner toward the perimeter, creating a high-rebound zone that stretches over a maximum area. Like a giant metal trampoline, it's just waiting for the ball to jump off of it.
Hollow-Body StructureHigh rebound faceRemarkable distance and forgiveness There are many visual cues on the NVG2 irons that convey a sense of easy contact: the muscular top line, the perfectly offset clubhead and the aggressive hosel design. But what translates that visual ease into great shots is something that can't be seen. The NVG2's precision hollow body structure enhances the variable thickness cup face to create remarkable high-rebound properties over the entire clubface. Simply said, you will experience forgiveness and distinctive length that you cannot achieve with a one-piece iron.
Progressive tungsten weightingLocalized CGHigh-launch long irons Controlled short irons
High handicappers struggle getting long irons airborne quickly and easily. To improve launch, progressive tungsten weight technology localizes the CG according to club loft. In the longer irons, it's set low and deep from the face to keep the mass of the club directed more vertically through the contact zone for easy lift. In the short irons, it's located in the sole, lower and slightly toward the face for greater control. It's twice visible technology: you can see the tungsten on the base of the club and its effect on the flight of the ball. Suggested retail prices for the NVG2 irons are $699.99 with steel shafts and $799.99 with graphite. Our opinion: We love these clubs. We think everyone but the single-digit handicappers will benefit from hitting the MacGregor MACTEC NVG2 Mid Irons. If you want to hit the ball straighter and longer, give these irons a try.

WeReview4U: SwingJuice
DATE: 08/06/2007 08:14:29 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes
SwingJuice: Hybrid Energy DrinkI was recently introduced to a sports drink called Swing Juice. Well, right off the name had my attention. Reading more about the promising concoction, I learned that Swing Juice claimed to "increase my concentration, sharpen my focus, boost my energy and boost my swing." Had I finally found the fountain of good golf? If so, perhaps I wondered if I could bathe in it. After a little research, I learned that Swing Juice was created by an avid golfer like me and that the special ingredients are designed to work together in a number of positive ways. How can you go wrong with ingredients that are know to help sharpen focus and maintain concentration, restore fatigued muscles, ease depression and anxiety, alleviate nerve pain and numbness and reduce muscle spasms and leg cramps? Best of all, unlike other sports drinks such as Gatorade, Swing Juice has zero sodium and a relatively low level of caffine. Ingredients:Gingko Biloba - Helps to sharpen focus and maintain concentration. Ginseng - Reduces the effects of stress, improves performance and boosts energy levels. Taurine - Restores fatigued muscles. Caffeine - Mentally raises focus and alertness (*only 25mg per serving). Vitamin D - Helps promote healthy bones. Niacin - Eases depression and anxiety. Vitamin B12 - Alleviates nerve pain, numbness, and tingling. Vitamin B6 - Reduces muscle spasms, leg cramps, hand numbness, and some neuritis conditions Before cleansing my soul in the promise of great golf, I decided to put the drink to the test and introduce it to my 19thHole.com Review Team colleagues. Too good to be true? I was on a mission to find out. Grabbing multiples of every flavor I could find, I proceeded to first have a taste test to include the flavors of Fruit Punch, Orange Mango, Lemonade, and Sugar Free Pink Lemonade. After which, each of my colleagues were given their own supply of Swing Juice and asked to play a round of golf and monitor their concentration, energy and anxiety levels. We understand that it’s a very small sample size but here are our findings:
Scores based on a 1-10 Scale, 10 being the best possible. Final Thoughts: Our review team generally liked the flavor better than any other sports or energy drink. Some reviewers felt a noticable increase in alertness and energy during their round, while others commented that they were not as tired when they finished. The one drawback right now that I found is the availability of the product. SwingJuice is not widely distributed but they are currently working out deals with golf shops and grocery stores across the US and Canada. Be sure to keep an eye out for Swing Juice at your local club, golf or grocery store. Give it a try and let us know your thoughts. You can find more details at the SwingJuicewebsite. We Review4U: Birdie Girl Golf
DATE: 07/24/2007 20:02:31 / MOOD: i love golf
Our review team took a closer look at the Camo LTD. Golf bag. For this review, the team consisted of seven ladies ranging in age from 24 to 66 with handicaps ranging from 3 to 25. Where else in the market can you
find a pink camouflage golf bag? Above all else, we loved the uniqueness of the
bag and the opportunity for the compliments we think this bag
deserves. In addition to the look of the bag, there were a number of features that we think are top notch. We prefer to save our energy for our tee shots and appreciate that this bag weighs in at just under three pounds and is comparable to the lightest bags on the market. This is also a huge bonus for the ladies that like to walk and carry. If one of the reasons that you choose not to walk and carry your clubs is because you don’t like the bag hitting your lower back with every step, this bag addresses the problem perfectly by including a lumbar support pad making this golf bag one of the most comfortable carry bags we have tested. We also love the storage on this bag. With seven pockets we were able to fill it with all the necessities and then fill it some more. But be careful, with all this storage space you can easily weigh the bag down to a point it is not easy to carry so be choosy in what you decide to store in all those pockets. We really like the velour lined pocket for jewelry safe keeping. Many of us store our golf clubs in our garage, some in swanky golf bag organizers and others in an open corner. Either way this bag will fit perfectly. And unlike most stand bags that need to have the stand legs extended in order to stay upright, the Birdie Girl bag has a flat, solid platform so it stands upright on its own. This feature allows the camo LTD to function equally as well as a cart bag, when strapped into your EZ Go or on a Pull Cart. As a group, we were all a little hesitant carrying a bag with the term Birdie Girl splashed down the side afraid that it might make us seem a little too arrogant. As it turns out we decided to throw caution to the wind and take the term as a self-fulfilling prophecy. We look forward to not only sporting a new BirdieGirl golf bag but also making a few more birdies along the way.
