June SUPER Star - 19thHole Picks Jim Odom

06/11/2007 20:53:05 / i love golf

As promised, I would like to introduce you to the 19th Hole’s first Super Star. Who else to showcase in this initial feature than our very own friend and the founder of this cool place we all like to hang out but Jim Odom.

Jim was kind enough to answer a few of my questions but I have a feeling I have only scratched the surface of this good ‘ol boy / wanna-be scratch golfer. Jim will be available at the 19thHole’s Live Chat every Tuesday from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. CDT thru the rest of the month. Read below and find out what you might have in common and be sure to harass him on Tuesdays’ with your own questions.

The Dawg’s SUPER Star Interview with Jim Odom:

What is your hometown/town of birth?
I was born in Denton, Texas…Just north of Dallas and Fort Worth but grew up in Fort Worth (assuming that I ever did grow up).

Have you ever had a pet that was not a cat or dog? What was it?
I had two birds, two hamsters and numerous fish. The cat ate them all…that’s why I have dogs now.

What was the last song you sang when no one else was around?
Double-Bogey Blues from the Tin Cup Soundtrack

What are 3 of your favorite TV shows?
Sunday Afternoon Golf, Monday Night Football and Spurs Playoff Basketball

If you could play golf anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Scotland, Ireland and Augusta National.

First thing you notice about the opposite (or same) sex?
What brand of putter she’s using.

Croutons or bacon bits?
Bacon, bacon, bacon….

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Rocky Road…everything good wrapped into one.

Last movie you saw in theater?
Dream Girls….DON’T ASK!!!

What scares you?
A double-bogie on 18.

What is the most valuable swing tip you have ever received?
STOP THINKING!

What is a personality trait in others that really irritates you?
I get irritated when people are mad all the time or happy all the time. Life is never that bad or that good. Life is a roller coaster, roll with it.

If you’re life was to be made into a movie, who would you want to play your role?
Bobby Jones, Norm from Cheers, and George Strait.

What do you normally eat for breakfast?
Diet Coke.

What would we find in your golf bag besides, golf clubs?
Nothing too interesting…red Sharpie, a Masters ball marker, rain suit (like I ever play in the rain), small bottle of Crown for that shot…you know the one, and a large bottle of Crown for the rest of that round.

What was your first job?
My first job was cracking 500 eggs into a bucket and scrambling them…at 5 a.m. on a Saturday when I was 15.

What was your first car?
9-year old Datsun 280Z…I painted it black, put gold spoke rims on it and a Kenwood system…what a ride!

When you mark your golf ball, what type of design do you use?
A red dot on either side of the number.

Other than golf, what is your favorite sport to watch?
Well, it’s June…what else is there besides Spurs Playoffs? Just a couple of weeks until training camp though…HOW ‘BOUT THEM COWBOYS!

If you could change any one part of your game, what would it be?
I have a backswing that John Daly would be embarrassed by. I joke about the bruises on the outside of my left knee…now, if it were only a joke. It’s not pretty. My swing is beyond help.

What is the greatest memory you have on the golf course…..?
That I can talk about??? I guess it could be the net 66 I shot in a Club Championship a few years back for a 10 stroke lead on the first day. That was the only complete round where I felt “in the zone.” But I think my greatest memory was the second, and final, day of that tournament when I put three balls OB in the first two holes, and then was able to get my head on straight, forget about that awful start, and hold on to win by 1 stroke. Now THAT was a round I won’t forget.

What is the advice you would give to another golfer.
I’ll have to steal this bit of advice…” Forget your opponents; always play against par. ~Sam Snead”

Are you 19thHole.com SUPER Star Material or know someone who might be? Just send me a message and let me know why you think you fit the bill. Who knows you could be our next SUPER Star?
