Double Bogey Blues???

05/02/2007 18:49:33 / like playing 36 holes

What’s that saying?…."A bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at the office?"

Here recently I think mind numbing spreadsheets, boring conferences calls and even angry emails from the boss would be less painful and upsetting to the ego than my play on the golf course.

Friends, I think I’m coming down with a bad case of the double-bogey blues…..

I know it’s early in the year and I’m still shaking the dust off the old sticks but I can’t help but thinking it’s more than a winter lay off that has me scoring sky high.

It’ wild drives into places I’ve never been before.  It’s three-jacks from here to barely there.  It’s chunky wedges after a smokin’ long drive.  It’s what feels like overnight stays in not so deep or difficult bunkers.  It’s lost balls and the dreaded out of no-where shanks.   If the truth be known, I think it’s not only the double-bogey blues that have plagued me…I think I also have a case of the triple-bogey blues.

When did Bogey become so HERO that it puts a spring in my step…What happened to pars and even the occasional sweet tweet birdie?

I’m totally freakin’ out here!  I could really use a healthy dose of sanity.

A little sympathy might feel good too.

Remember AceGirl,  the hardest part of golf is your frame of mind.  We go out in a good mood expecting to shoot a good score.  Yeah, we tell ourselves that it's been a long winter and that things are going to look ugly on the outside , but deep down we still expect to see a good game.  After all...we've been watching it on tv and it still looks pretty easy.

The way I beat this is I don't even keep score for the first month out.  The first week I really commit to swinging easy..just keep the drives in the fairway about 180 out and the first putt on every green is to lag within 3'.  If you work on this you'll find that your drives actually go well and your putts are fun.  The next week work on driving and short game.  The third work on mid irons, and by the end of the forth actually keep your score.  If you will do this you will find the blues leave your sole and blanket the skies!     If you can only play once a week then you need to try to hit a small bucket a couple times each week working on these areas.

It works for me!!!

Girlfriend WELCOME to "Spring Golf".  Just give it some time.  It has been HOW LONG since last fall?  You should be in my shoes after 13 years of not playing.  It is amazing how one's mind ONLY remembers the good shots.  Now I am wondering if I will ever get back to par ball!   I feel for you.....oklong enough, not get out there and ENJOY the fresh air, listen to the birds sing and before you know it.....your game is back to normal!

Thatshould do it!  Now, get up, go to the range, loosen up and wack a way! Now, take a deep breath and swing easy....that's it... doesn't already feel better.  I just love the sound and feel of great contact.  THWWACKK especially when that contact is good and square! Kindasounds sensual even..  Now I gotta goooo wack some!!!!

Best cure for the double/triple bogie blues........Don't try to kill the ball.  Get to the green in 1 over regulation, 2 putt and there is your bogey.  You'll even slip in a par here and there.
