Summer Is Here

05/18/2008 18:08:37 / can't wait for it to cool down

Summer must be here for some of us. We golfed in 105F+ degrees today, and expect the same for the next few days. The weather folks will say it was 105+/-, but we had three car thermometers reading 110+, while moving, and my out door stuff at home were all in the same range. No matter, it was hot. Good thing was the humidity was low. The old saying "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" does not apply to weather. You eastern folks will see your version of this heat wave in a few days.

As for the golf it was good. The four of us all shot in the mid-low 80s. Did not have much trouble warming up. We made use of the shade trees, and the beverage cart while waiting our turn to hit. Fast greens made fools of us a few times, but we were able to adjust towards the end of our round.

As always, with the hotter temps, remember to plan a head, and stay hydrated.

Play "COOL"....FHs

Tenth,

I have spent some time in Beaverton, Klackamass(sorry for the spelling), Portland, and Coosbay and dad belongs to Forest Hills Country Club up there. The 90 degree weather must have been a heat wave for everyone.

I'm sorry to report that we had some ninety degree weather over the weekend, and the members were mostly crankly, but the cart lady was busy and the beer was flowing. Generally, Oregon is known of mild summer weather in the 70s and 80s, with low humidity.

Of course, today it's windy and cool. But I don't know how y'all do it, 110* and such. You must pretty much have the course to yourself :). Guys do say the heat makes them feel younger.

I was hiking up in Red Rock Canyon last Tuesday, and it was real nice up there. Today it will be 110*F+/-. Yesterday it was 114*F, as actully reported by the weather guy/girl. We start cooling off on Wednesday. I personally like hot weather, as long as it is of the "dry heat" variety. A friend of mine was golfing in Death Valley on Monday, and told me it was 118*F  while he was down there. Next week I will be in Jackson Wyoming. It is supposed to be wet, with temps only as high as 65*F, and lows in the mid 30s. That will be a big change on this old body...lol   FHs
