It's Official

06/25/2008 14:48:16 / can't wait for it to cool down

It's official. If you are planning a golf vacation to Las Vegas, NV, then you need to bring your own shade. Actually every where in the desert south west is pretty warm. Triple digit heat has set in for the long run. What ever the weather person says, add 5-10 degrees to his forecast. Of course it still cools down at night to the mid to high 80s.

Alot of the golf courses have gone to their summer rates to entice folks to brave this heat. I am golfing for less than $25 after 10AM. Problem is some of the lower end courses are showing alot of damage to their fairways. Why they water in the middle of the day I have know idea. Browned out fairways should not be a surprise.

Of course I lke the heat since the courses are less crowded in the afternoons.  FHs

Yes, FH, as my user picture show's, I like to get right in next to the bush where the maximum shade is!

Howzit, I like the way you think. I don't play from the fairways  very much either......regardless of the weather. Trees are great, and playing from, and waiting my turn in the shade is a good thing. That is except in the few instances when they throw the ball back at you......FHs

For this exact reason I claim fairways are "Over-rated"!  I find it alot more "comfortable" to play from the tree's during the summer!

10th, I guess if you are use to any temp, it makes it much more bearable. Being a hot weather native, I like it just fine. As for feeling younger, I have to say the aches and pains are much less. It is easier, and you get a more  thorough warm up in warmer temps, than cooler ones. When it's cold, i know I don't spend enough time warming up before a round, and my score suffers over the first few holes.

Now i have been up in your part of the country where the locals were golfing in short sleeve shirts, while i was wearing long sleeves and a jacket. I once golfed 18 holes in freezing temps with a wind chill of 15*F+/-. At the time it was a fun outing with relatives, but it is not something i would do more than twice a year. Tough to swing a club, or putt when dressed in snow pants, a parka, and ski gloves .....LOL

Handling the heat must be an aquired skill. Some old guys say it makes them feel younger. Anything over 80 degrees, and I'm looking to avoid it by golfing just before sunset, or at least using a cart and and making it multi purporse by nursing a beer. Fortunately, this is not usually the case here is summer :).

FH's

I love golf in Vegas that time of year just because of the rates. You get to play some of the best courses for less that $70.00. Definently the best time to go if you can  handle the heat.
