Justice system

10/25/2007 12:57:23 / throwing clubs

The past week and a half, I had to serve on jury duty which I feel is my civic duty; but the case on which I served on  has left  a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. We as the jury  had to  rule  based on the facts.  We found in favor of the plaintiff but if good buisness practice as far as purchasing property, I feel that the plaintiff may have played the system. We may have the best justice system in the world but there will always be someone out there that will try to take advantage of it.

You should feel lucky to serve on Jury Duty.  You get paid and don't have to go to work.

I would not worry too much about your decision. Your concern should have been the concern of the defendents' lawyer. He should have seen what you saw, and figured out a way to use it to his defendents advantage..

I was on a 12 man jury who had to decide a murder conspiriacy charge against a defendent. All the facts, and evidence said the defendent was guilty of murder. 4 eye witnesses saw the murder happen, and identified the defendent as the murderer.  One minor (to 11 of us) fact was the defendent had killed the wrong guy. He had been paid $200, and given an old Ford Van to kill a certain individual. 11 of us voted guilty. The lone not guilty vote came from a guy who said the conspiriacy charge did not exists since the defendent had killed the wrong guy.  We argued this issue for 9 days behind closed doors. The defendent walked due to the fact that all 12 of us did not reach the same verdict, but I believe was retried later for murder. All of this over a "love triangle" . Here's the kicker, the guy who paid to have a rival boy friend killed, had all his murder charges dropped, and never went to trial based on our own hung jury issue. However, he was convicted on another, much lessor charge involving drugs as I recall.  Go figure.....
