AAAAHHHHHHH !

03/06/2008 06:55:51 / like playing 36 holes

I went to the range 3 days ago during my lunch break. I dont know if it was due to not hitting a ball in awhile, working 14-16 hr days, or just fell out of touch with my swing. I felt like I could not hit the backside of a barn. I felt so out of sync. I have been working with a weighted club that has a special molded grip on it. I use it early every morning before work( 4:30a.m.) for 5 minutes to keep the swing in check. So I think. I was hitting some really awful toe looping, going no-where,duck hooks. Once I started to find a swing it still felt as if something were missing. I went back yesterday and hit another bucket. Irons were straighter but not getting the normal feel at impact as well as distance and my driver has a big fade to a push. I think it is rythim. I am so puzzled due to just last month I was hitting the irons beautifully with easy power being created. My driver was my best friend and now I am trying to book a club fitting with Susan Roll who is one of Titleist club fitters in Carlsbad. Maybe she can look at my swing and tell me if my path is off or maybe I picked up a Flu-bug in my swing somewhere.

FH'S ,

Now that you put it that way I see your point. You Are right on with that. My father and I are in the studio and thaeter business and sometimes when I work the rail(counter-balance weight system) I pull ropes that have a lot of weight to them. Well if I play golf the next day I would usually hit a few hook shots due to the forearms getting the workout and over powering the rest of the swing. I really did not think of it when using this work out club trainer. But I will look up the Kallassy Magic Trainer. It sounds interesting.

I have been told that these weighted clubs, are a good way to limber up, maintain swing muscle tone, but should also be used in conjunction with your regular clubs. Stands to reason since if you use only a weighted club without using your regular clubs, your regular club muscle memory is going to be lost to the heavier club.  When you go back to using your regular clubs, your lighter club tempo, and timing will have to be reacquired. I am not a swing guru, but I too have a weighted club. If I don't use my regular clubs with it, my hands and arms will out run my hips causing me to hit those hooks, and pulls you spoke of. When my hands out run my hips, this causes me to swing from out to in with a square club face to that out to in swing line. With this swing issue all I need to do is roll my grip just a little bit closed to produce the hook. . Been there and done what you are discribing. Took me about 2 weeks to get my regular club swing back after usuing a weighted club for a few days when I couldn't swing my regular clubs. I still use my weighted club, but I also use a  Kallassy Swing Magic trainer, in addition to my regular clubs. FHs
