I dont know if anyone has really thought about it but Freddy Couples in my opinion has an excellent chance of placing in the top 3 if not winning it for the Masters this year.Jack Nicklaus did it at the age of 46. Yes I know there is the " Tiger" factor but Freddy has made God knows how many concecutive cuts for the Masters and when he makes it this year he will have broken the all time record of cuts made at the Masters if I remember correctly. He is hitting the ball fantastically right now and very long. He averaged in Huston somewhere in the area of 307 yards off the tee. If he can roll the rock well, he can win this for he knows these greens like the back of his hand. I know I heard that 2 greens were changed a little from last season and they lengthened the course again but as we all know it is a game of 100 yards and in. He is extremely aware of all the little humps and bumps in the greens and where to and not to hit it. The only other factor I think will be an issue is his health(back).
So now I know why when I go to Las Vegas I just play golf and not gamble. I feel bad for Freddy Couples and my hats off to Trevor Immalman. I never had even thought about him. But he won in style and grace and showed to be a true gentleman about it too.
Well I guess now after day 1 I just hope Freddy makes the cut. I am sure he was dissapointed with the performance but I also heard the earlier players faced tougher conditions son now with a later time maybe he can gain some ground.
I hope Freddy wins again, but in my opinion he would be my dark horse pick. I like him alot. I have a cap with only 4 autographs on it. Couples, Stewart, Furyk, and Fluff. Don't plan to add anymore, as this hat is special to me.
Couples does have the weather in his favor. He said on TGC (Tiger's Golf Channel) that he preferred to work in damp weather. With damp weather, everyone's back will be stiff, and just not his.
It would be great to see Freddy play well. He is just so smooth and like you said, if his back stays healthy, he has a good chance. He plays course management better than most.
