A Signature Statement
DATE: 05/29/2007 09:38:27 / MOOD: i love golf
A customer came to me last week with a very new and very interesting fashion request. It turns out my client has a teenage daughter that plays on the A.J.G.A (American Junior Golf Association) which is as I understand it a traveling tour just like the PGA or LPGA but for junior golfers. I’m told that many of the colleges and universities recruit new players from this prestigious tour.
Well, my client is all about doing whatever she can to help make her daughter a standout. Her daughter has the best equipment and teaching pros. I am flattered that she came to me to help put together the best summer fashions. My client’s daughter is adorable and very athletic and really does wear anything well. This teenager has an awesome personality and radiates confidence. She tends to like the fun and funky so I put her in some Jamie Sadock ensembles. Let’s face it; anything that Jamie Sadock does is fun and funky. All the kids seem to be all about ADIDAS so I couldn’t leave out the ADIDAS ClimaCool skorts and matching tops. Being that her daughter is 16, I also shopped what I consider to be a ‘younger’ and newly introduced line in PUMA Golf. I love the PUMA bold pinks and the fun belt and hat accessories as did my client.
While I was out shopping thinking about what it was once like to be young and look fabulous in anything, I decided that my A.J.G.A. princess needed a signature statement that both she and her fans would remember forever. Something that would set her apart from all of the other players and really make those college coaches takes notice. I suggested that my new client take all of her daughter’s well loved and broken in white leather golf shoes into the local bridal shop and have the color died to a gorgeous gold. After all, gold goes with black, navy, beige, you name it. She can wear a gold pair of golf shoes with every new outfit and really get the attention her game deserves.
Perhaps gold golf shoes are a bit flashy for you. Perhaps only a cocky, smooth-swingin’ 16 year old can pull this look off. However, if you have a pair of dingy shoes that need some new life and a new outfit lacking a matching pair of shoes, why not have them died to color coordinate?

NIKE: I've Got My Eyes on YOU
DATE: 05/21/2007 12:39:02 / MOOD: can't wait for the sun to come up
I have a solution to my annoyance with sunglasses on and off the golf course. You all know my thoughts on the new eyewear fashion trends. Basically, I’m just not into the BIG sunglasses. Truth be known, I’m not really into sunglasses at all. I hate the way they fall down my nose when things heat up. I’m still not fully recovered from the time one of the few pairs I really liked (and paid a small fortune for) fell off as I was getting into the golf cart and my partner accidentally ran them over.
Well, thank goodness for smart solutions, innovation and last but not least NIKE. NIKE has released this month what could potentially be the coolest fashion trend of the season with The Nike Maxsight sport-tinted soft contact lenses. Yes, that’s right. Just pop them in before you play and gone are the annoying sunglasses and here come the better reads on the putting surface. Yes, these contact lenses make everything crisp and clear and seem to really help reading putts. I wore the grey-green tinted contacts as my eyes are green. They also have an amber color that you might want to try if you have dark eyes. The downside of these contacts is that they are a bit large and my gal pals said that I looked like an alien when they first say my new look. I think these contacts could be HUGE, but perhaps NIKE can work on them and somehow make them a bit smaller so that I only hit the ball out of this world rather than look like that’s where I came from.
ClickHere to get a coupon for a free trial pair to check them out for yourself. I can’t wait to hear what you think about them.

Sassy Sunglasses or Something Else?
DATE: 05/04/2007 12:56:21 / MOOD: like playing 36 holes
Let’s face it; Paula Creamer could look gorgeous in a gunny sack dress and a paper bag over her head. I am a Huge fan and love to not only follow her play but also her fashion sense.
As a personal shopper I try and emulate a number of her looks for my younger and sassier clientele. Unfortunately, we all can’t pull off the head to toe pink, ribbon and bows as well as the latest edition to the Paula Creamer look: The big sunglasses.
Apparently Paula has teamed up with Sundog to create a The Paula Creamer Collection line. I recently had the opportunity to shop these glasses. I have got to tell you, fashion seekers, that even though the glasses seem to be sturdy and as well made as any pair of sunglasses should be, I left the store empty handed.
I get it! Big sunglasses are “IN”! I get the style. I get the glamour. In fact, I think the average golf course could use a little more glamour. HOWEVER, when did glamour turn into gold rimmed ‘objects’ that remind me more of ski goggles than sunglasses? When did glamour turn into covering half of your face with 10-base toric lenses (whatever that means)?
When did sunglasses get so out of hand?
Am I way off base here?

Think Outside the Hat Box!
DATE: 04/24/2007 20:07:16 / MOOD: i love golf
A local at the 19thHole questioned me about suggestions for ladies hats other than visors to wear on the links.
First of all, I send a hoo-rah to my new friend for making an effort to find the perfect hat. The hat after all is one of the best defenses against the sun and should be worn by us all! Secondly, I love a woman who is willing to try new accessories. Hats are a great way to make a statement!
You don’t have to go with the traditional golf visor or baseball cap to look like a player. Oh no! There are so many options. You can consider an updated version of the Michelle McGan with a trendy straw cowboy hat. Why not a fun bold printed box hat that puts some new punch in that old outfit? I personally love a classic peek-a-boo hat that can take me from the golf course to an afternoon picnic on the beach.
Whatever you do, think outside the hatbox and don’t be afraid to stand out and wear something a little different than all of the other ladies at your club. Trust me, before you know it you will have started a new trend and all of your friends will want to go ‘hat’ shopping with you!

Birdies & Bling-Bling

I just can’t seem to resist putting on a new piece of jewelry and smiling just a bit. I don’t know many women who can. Let’s face it, jewelry is fun and it makes us feel great. Why then, do we think we have to leave our flash at home in the jewelry box when we hit the links?
I understand that you might not want to wear your 4 CT diamond ring or that gorgeous priceless bracelet that was great-grandmother Jane’s. That’s fine, but why not replace those beautiful baubles with new baubles more playful than expensive.
You can still look great in the fun and fabulous costume jewelry hitting the style watch this spring. My pick: Big Dangle Earrings. What could be more fun? The best thing about these earrings is that you can find them to match any outfit and you can go as big and bold as you feel comfortable. Don’t think for a second only the teenyboppers on tour can pull this look of. Don’t underestimate yourself, mid-life mamma, you will look amazing in a new pair of flashy earrings.
These fun earrings will gain you compliments from the course to cocktails.

Momma Needs a New Pair of Shoes
DATE: 04/05/2007 15:46:06 / MOOD: i love golf
“Though I am grateful for the blessings of wealth, it hasn’t changed who I am. My feet are still on the ground. I’m just wearing better shoes.” – Oprah Winfrey
Ok, let's face it. When Oprah talks about wealth she is way beyond anything you or I could ever even fathom. She however, still makes an excellent point. Great shoes are the difference between a $15 round of golf and a high dollar country club membership. I don't care if all you ever play is that $15 a round golf course. That's not the point! Spend a little extra on the shoes and look like a million bucks wherever you are.
You can wear a solid beige pair of shorts and a plain white golf shirt but by adding a pair of really funky or super classic looking shoes, you are no longer plain, you are a stand out.
Keep an eye out for end of the year sales. Do a quick search on auction sites for your size. Don't feel comfortable buying on-line? That's ok. Identify your local neighborhoods near high end country clubs and keep an eye out for garage sales. You will be amazed at how many gently used or even brand spankin' new ladies golf shoes you will find.
Just don't skimp on the shoes! Your feet and your self confidence will thank you!

Stylin' & Profilin'
DATE: 03/28/2007 20:47:10 / MOOD: i love golf
Fun day today! I picked up a new client. A referral from a long time customer.
In my line of work it is very important to meet the person face to face and visit with them about their style likes and dislikes. Would you believe one lady I worked with refused to wear anything with purple in it? Turns out another didn't want anything above the knee line. We all have our hang ups and I don't know what these things are until I get to know the person and ask.
Today I met with, let's call her Susie. Susie is about 5'2", size 14and loves big jewelry. To our meeting Susie brought the latest edition of Golf for Women and pointed out a high end clothing ad and said, I want to look like that on the golf course. "Like that" meaning, 5'9', size 2, long blonde hair and the perkiest boobs you have ever seen. Girlfriend, don't we all!
Sometimes the most important part of my job is tact and man did I excel at it today. I told her (and I do believe this strongly) that sometimes the looks we see in the magazines aren't practical for the golf course. Do we really want to wear a silk scarf in 90 degree temperatures? Only if it is drenched in ice water first, right? I told her that my goal was to find her a golf wardrobe that will be functional for the course and that will still look good for that after round cocktail.
Susie has great curves and is pear shaped with rockin' shoulders and well defined arms. Her "I hate my body area" is her toosh. Because of her shape, I have ruled out pleated shorts and because of her height skorts or scooters are out of the question. I think she will look smokin' in pin striped capris, small plaid or solid color flat front shorts and sleeveless v-neck tops and cap sleeve shirts that are made to be worn untucked. I will find matching light weight sweaters to wear over the shirts or around the shoulders to pull together the after golf cocktail hour look. Given the picture she pointed out in the mag, I may also try and find some colorful silk scarves to have her tie around her neck for the total glam 'after' golf look. Won't she look polished!
I am so excited that Susie loves big jewelry. I can't wait to find matching necklace and earring sets to go with each now outfit.
If you are ever struggling to look polished on the links, just add a fun necklace and some fun earrings. A very inexpensive and fun statement that doesn't get in the way of play and assures that you always look and feel your best.

A Bit of Fashionista Intro
DATE: 03/25/2007 19:37:54 / MOOD: i love golf
The 19thHole?! What a great spot to dish about my two favorite things....Golf and Fashion! As I mentioned in my profile, I am a personal shopper for as I like to quietly call them, "Ladies of Leisure." AKA: Ladies who spend their mornings at Yoga, their afternoons on the golf course and their evenings at charity balls and/or elaborate dinners. The ages range from trophy wife to sugar mamma.
I love them all dearly and more importantly, I love shopping for them! What's the saying? – “Can't play it, teach it.”
I myself am a girl on a budget that loves to make inexpensive items look classy but relish the opportunity to spend other people’s big bucks on fashion and accessories. I do love my job (it does after all pay the bills) but sometimes a girl just needs to vent, talk thru some fashion trend ideas, throw out some uninvited advice and hear about other people's favorite Fashionista put-togethers. My biggest fear today: Being 19thHole.com Friendless...so if you're into fashion on the links invite me to be your friend. Let's dish! I can't wait to hear about your top fashion picks for this season!
